In case you haven’t heard, a huge portion of the Amazon rainforest which is considered as the lungs of the world is burning. And it’s not just the normal fires that are usually reported in the forest.
This forest fire incident has been going on for more than three weeks, and it has little media attention.
How did it start?
While some reports are claiming that the fire was started because of natural reasons, and is just normal during the dry season, one indigenous woman does not believe that.
She claims that it was deliberately burned on purpose. Watch the video of her outburst here:
Sunrise Movement provided a translation of her words on Twitter, which said:
‘For 2 years we’ve fought to preserve [our reservation] & these assholes came in & burned it down.
They are killing our rivers, our sources of life, & now they have set our reserve on fire. Tomorrow we are closing the roads & I want all the media here to see this.’
People are deliberately starting fires in the #AmazonRainforest to illegally deforest indigenous land for cattle ranching

Is it true?
If her statement is proven to be true, it will coincide to some reports that went out that claims that the fires were started on purpose to give way to Brazil’s cattle farming.
Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro who took office January this year is not new to these issues.
He has been accused of being lax regarding the country’s deforestation. In fact, the forest fires that were reported during the first 8 months of 2019 has already surpassed the overall reported number of fires in 2018.
Backlash
In the comments section, some people may seem to think that the woman is a paid actor to throw down the government.
However, paid actor or not, it is obvious that the Earth’s lungs, that supplies 20% of our oxygen need our help.
Environmental activists are pleading people to start in their own small ways.
